Masterpiece’s approach is believed to be not only the antithesis but even the antidote to the value-dilutionary trend in luxury hotel development today that manages standardized properties under a consolidated corporate umbrella – all for the purpose of cost-efficiency and templatization of delivery. 

As a result of this experience-diluting trend, the rich uniqueness of many of the world’s most extraordinary destinations has been muted or lost, leaving a consumer’s five-star hotel experience with one brand on Maui feeling much the same as their experience in Los Angeles. This brand and value dilution has been felt by today’s savvy luxury traveler who, more and more, seeks out lesser-known boutique experiences that are not constrained by corporate standards, and which place a priority on individualizing the guest experience and maintaining brand savoir faire.

Most luxury hotel brands impose their brand standards on today’s traveler with little to no ability to deviate. As a result, customers are funneled through the same parameters of the customer experience that, at the end of the day, can whittle down the value proposition just to the benefits provided by loyalty perks and product and service standardization. 

In contrast, The Masterpiece Collection’s properties, whether independently or third-party branded, are the antithesis of mass standardization. Instead of loyalty points and brand standards being the guest’s property selection criteria, The Masterpiece Collection sells unique experiences and personalized services which can be customized from one’s needs up to the extent of one’s desires. This approach has been shown to attract the higher disposable income patron, stimulate higher ancillary spending, and create an emotional connection between the customer and the brand resulting in highly profitable repeat patronage.

Corporate Support Paradigm

The Masterpiece Collection-managed hotels will operate under a guided but decentralized management strategy. 

The corporate team at The Masterpiece Collection will invest in the care, maintenance, and management of their constituent assets and brands that support the maintenance of brand savoir-faire and enhancement of profitability. 

Consistent with our strategy, each The Masterpiece Collection property’s brand DNA and customer appeal will be enabled to grow over time, amplify demand, and sustain and enhance profitability. 

Economies of scale at The Masterpiece Collection will reside mainly at the corporate level, leveraging infrastructural capabilities and resources to generate cost efficiency, enabling a strong but guided decentralized structure. 

Each Masterpiece Collection property or brand will be encouraged to utilize corporate services where it makes the most sense for the benefit of the property – without enforcing standardized requirements that add no value at the asset level. 

A clear set of success metrics will be set in place with each property where the performance of each property will be measured against customer engagement, employee engagement, competitive set comparative results and property financial outcomes/expectations.
